Birthday, books and Hand Turkey....Always more hand turkeys

So... This awesome package came in the mail from my publisher....

YES!! My new book is out!!! If by any chance you contributed to my publisher's kickstarter and didn't get your copies, go to the site and fill out the survey so they can ship to a confirmed address.

Also this week was Phoebe's birthday, who is now an awesome 14 years old.  Here she is the night of her birthday onstage (yes, she performed that night!).

She also made us all an amazing Tiramisu cake for that night after her show.

It was excellent (she's a really good cook).

The next night Phoebe went with her friends to the opening of Mockingjay 2, while they were out Naomi made her another great cake... Happy Birthday Phoebe!

I'm still making hand turkeys each day this month.

Take a look each day on my art blog here!

Installing my glow worms and The Grand Avenue Festival

On Friday morning Mike and Beatrice Moore, (one of the directors of the Grand Avenue festival) and Berto (a friend), and I managed to string up my two 4 ft long glow worms to a tree on Grand Avenue.

It was a perfect day to hang giant bugs.

I also wrapped the tree in glow webbing from Halloween.

The green one peered down at people passing by.

They are a bit creepy, but in a good way.

Anyway, yesterday was the big festival day. We came in the evening when the Papa parade had started...

People on stilts. (Sorry my camera hates the dark!)

A kung fu group.

The strange white aliens.

The street was decorated for many blocks. This is a knitted tree.

A garden of oddities (well, that's what I'm calling it, Beatrice Moore is the creator and I think she has a name for it.)

Her garden is full of strange creatures.

I could have studied at it all night!

There were bands playing.

This neon car.

This woven fence display!

And my glow worms.

Which unfortunately weren't glowing (they had too much direct light). Oh well, they did spend almost 2 months glowing in my bedroom each night, so I know they DO glow if it's dark enough.

Anyway we had a good night, and here's a picture of Phoebe, because she's awesome.

On a side note, I'm still doing hand turkeys each day thru November. Here's my Star Wars one from today. To see my daily turkeys, check out my art blog! Have an excellent week!

First Friday, a ticket to college and hand turkeys

This past weekend Mike headed down to Tucson comic con. It was a pretty good event, with the exception having to deal with the crazy guy searching his bags at the Greyhound station.

Since I had to teach on Saturday he went alone. Instead I went to Chloe's art opening at her school, since many of her pieces were chosen for the exhibit.

Chloe with her cut paper piece.
This one is her monoprint. Her print making teacher gave me a hug at the show and said she was amazed by how great Chloe has gotten this year!

And this is one of her life drawings. Chloe in fact had quite the weekend. On Saturday she got a letter from Hollins University in Virginia offering her a $108,000 scholarship for 4 years! This is her first big offer.  She was offered a couple really small scholarships to other schools, but this one means she may actually be able to go to college next year, with some additional loans and grants of course.

Saturday was the first day of a new session of my painting class. We did circle designs inspired by Atsuko Tanaka, a Japanese painter.

In other news...It's Thanksgiving time and I'm doing hand turkeys again!

Halloween is over!

"People are willing to take these extraordinary chances to become writers, musicians, or painters, and because of them, we have a culture. If this ever stops, our culture will die, because most of our culture, in fact, has been created by people that got paid nothing for it--people like Edgar Allan Poe, Vincent Van Gogh or Mozart."-Kurt Vonnegut
