How not to be bored in San Diego...
So many people from all over the country and the world are flying in for the San Diego Comic Con in a just over a week, and several have asked me what they can do here in town with their extra time. So I made a list of some *cheap and free things to do in San Diego area. The links are to photos on my blog from earlier visits. I hope this is helpful!
Seaport Village is a great area to walk around, and is close to the Convention Center. It has shops, Street performers and the like.
Balboa Park has the zoo of course, but also the international cottages are open and a different country has a festival/lawn program each Sunday. Different museums there have a free day each Tuesday... These include Museum of Man, International Art Museum, The Science Center, The Museum of Natural History... etc...
Queen Califia's Magical Circle in Escondido is great for a picnic and an amazing outing with sculptures you just have to see!
La Jolla Cove is a great visit. There is a seal beach with viewing area, pelicans you can walk up to, and amazing vistas. The Sea Cave has an admission... like 2 or 3 dollars.
There's Old Town... Shops like the old Blacksmith, etc in a wild west theme. They also have the Whaley House, which is a famous haunted site that has tours. This area does ghost tours thru the whole "town". Ghost tours have some fees attached.
The Anza Borrego Desert is a huge state park east of us. Very inexpensive. There's a viewing tower and amazing hikes. Keep in mind though that it's summer in this hemisphere and HOT in the desert right now.
Also if you have a car...
LaBrea Tar Pits is in LA (2 hours driving)...bubbling tar.... dinosaurs. Free admission on the first of each month.
"The Power of Night Fire" is a free pyrotechnic, and water effects show, that's every Thursday thru Sunday night at the Viejas Outlet Center next to the Indian Casino (20 minutes East). This is a link to our visit to their Christmas Show.
Lastly but definitely not least is Tijuana,Mexico. We go down often and it's full of things to do. You can take the trolley to the border and walk across. Getting into Mexico is easy for non citizen, they don't even check your passport or talk to you... Just wander through the gate. Getting back into the States is the usual though, with customs and bag checks. The Cultural Center and The Wax Museum are both great, there. The Cultural Center has an Imax theater, but shows will be in Spanish.The Cultural Center and The Wax Museum are both great visits. If you're around August 8th come to Imperial Beach for The US Open SandCastle Competition (and festival), and see my husband Mike and I lead our ten person masters team to victory!!!

*In case you have money to burn there are, of course things like SeaWorld, Disneyland, Legoland, and the zoo. If you have skin resistant to burns there's an abundance of beaches!
